“Always a Gentleman” some volunteers take Atticus on field trips away from the shelter, he enjoys a moment off leash at Dog Beach

The volunteers at the SBACC know Atticus to be an amazing dog and as he has been with us longer than any other dog currently in residence; we have had the opportunity to get to know him very well. Atticus is a 3 year old Boxer/Beagle mix with love and energy to spare; he enjoys a good run alongside a skateboard or a bike. While at the shelter, Atticus doesn‟t always show his best attributes to potential adopters. We believe that the shelter environment including the chaos of all the other dogs barking and living in a small space causes him a great deal of stress. To relieve that stress some of the volunteers have taken him on field trips, walks in busy downtown Seal Beach, off leash at dog beach, cruising along PCH with his head out the window of the car, running in the park and Atti always behaves like a perfect gentleman. Our boy also a big lover of toys, every morning upon returning from his walk he is allowed to pick a toy from the shed, and he knows exactly which shed the toys are in. Atticus loves to get a good rub behind the ears, and when he falls asleep in your lap; his entire body relaxes like no other dog. A perfect home for here Atticus is one with an active, knowledgeable owner that can give him lots of attention; Atti would be a perfect hiking buddy. The SBACC will also provide an expert trainer that will come to the home and help Atticus acclimate to his new environment. Come the Seal Beach Animal Care Center and spend some time with Atticus, fall in love and get to know him as the volunteers do.

We thought it would be nice of us to send some pictures of Penelope and how she's doing. Ruby and Pene get along great with each other. On our way home from the shelter Ruby was in the front seat and Pene was in the back with me because we didn't know how they would interact with each other. To our surprise they were licking in each other's mouths the whole way home. They play together non stop...which can be quite annoying while you're trying to watch the mentalist and they INSIST to recreate the whole show in their own way, but we manage. Anyways, we sent some pictures we thought were cute of Penelope and Ruby together, thank you for letting us adopt such wonderful dogs!

This little boy was one of seven kittens born in a litter box at the shelter to a very frightened mom. He was a happy, playful kitten, waiting for the day when someone would take him home and love him forever.

One day he suddenly couldn’t use his back legs. We rushed him to the vet, where an ultrasound revealed a growth on his spine. A surgeon determined that he would most likely have a good chance of recovery and living a normal life, but the surgery would cost an estimated $4,500! We’d been hammered with medical bills already, dealing with an outbreak of Panleukopenia, also known as Feline Distemper. We’d lost many little lives to this and other especially deadly viral strains.

And then we knew; we’d lost too many little lives, shed too many tears, we couldn’t let Chaucer be another, not if we could do something. We made the decision to give him a chance. The good news is that Chaucer is recovering very well, and is regaining the use of his legs! Now we need your help to recover from this staggering medical bill and be ready for the next kitten, and the next…

Spring has come and it brought the pitter patter of little paws. The Seal Beach Animal Care Center is looking for kitten foster parents. We have bottle babies, young kittens and moms with kittens. We also need people to fill in for vacation relief, and to work with frightened or shy kittens. We provide training and everything necessary for the
kittens while they are in your care, including food, supplies and all medical needs.
