Maverick
Sometimes our shelter is the best family some of our dogs have ever known, and we take pride in that. However, we still wish that all of our dogs are able to find a home of their own – and be the cherished family member they should have always been. Yet, some remin our family until it’s time for them to cross the rainbow bridge
It’s our honor to be there with them, as they move on and leave us behind.
Unfortunately, the shelter had to say goodbye to one of our best big boys on Thursday. Maverick had called the shelter home off and on since 2017. His last home was such a great fit, but for reasons out of both Mav and his dad’s control, Maverick had to come back to us. For the next 1546 days he was a valued member of our shelter family. His days were filled with car rides, field trip, pup cups, and lots and lots of walks.
Maverick loved fiercely, enjoyed all the little things in life, and just had such a monumental presence at the shelter. This loss will be felt for quite some time, as we mourn our big bear, Maverick. The squirrels on the street will miss chirping at him as he walked by. Our car windows will miss the art he left behind with that big nose of his. All of our memories of playtime in the yard, long walks together, and adventures will bring tears to our eyes but love to our hearts as we remember our time with him.
To the people that were part of his inner circle, the ones who brought so much joy into his days, know he is always with us. There will never be a more dignified bear that graces the shelter, but he’ll send you another walking buddy or adventure loving pup to help heal the heartache of losing him.
Maverick‘s body was just in too much pain at the end, with bulging discs and dysplasia. For a large dog, he had a terrific run. If you met him before the last few months, you’d think he was around 5 years old at the max. His age in the shelter system was 12 years and 6 months, what an achievement, but it’s never long enough…
2013- November 20th, 2025 What a run big guy! We all miss you like crazy, with your forever puppy eyes and goofy personality. We wish we had more time with you, but will now cherish all that we were lucky enough to be given. Run free, Maverick
