Wayne and Kirby are an adorable pair with the cutest and most endearing faces.  These two have been through a lot and have taken a while to come around.  They came to us from a hoarding situation with little to no socialization with people.  Wayne and Kirby have bonded with a few volunteers, but are still not 100% comfortable being picked up and handled comfortably.  They DO however enjoy going for walks and exploring the play-yard. They need a quiet, adult only home where they will be given time to adjust to their new surroundings and routine.

The two of them were adopted, together, after 2 years in the shelter’s care. Kirby and Wayne had never known life inside of a home, so it was a big adjustment for them. With lots of time and patience, their new mom created a strong bond with them. We had received updates of great progress from the boys, to the point she could pick Kirby up comfortably and receive cuddles. Wayne has always been the more aloof to affection, but he was making strides as well.

Unfortunately their new dad didn’t have the same relationship with the dogs as his wife. Now, we do not know the lengths at which he attempted to make friends or how he went about it. We were not in the house, but we do know that the boys have strong friendships with male volunteers here at the shelter, so it wasn’t a gender specific issue. One day the man turned up with Wayne and Kirby, a few years after their adoption, and returned them without warning.

The boys did well reacclimating to shelter life, all things considered. Now that they are both in their senior years, we know that the two of them getting another shot at a home will be slim. They are incredibly bonded by now, and cannot be separated, and must go home together.

Out of all of our volunteers, the boys have a wide variety of relationships with them all. Some they do cute little dances for, so excited to see them. Others it is strictly business, they walk them and give some treats.

Wayne and Kirby are a cute pair, who love to go full wrestle mania while running around the yard – beating each other up until they both get too tired to keep going. Kirby then tries to convince the volunteer(s) up in the yard with them to give him all of the treats that they have. He has them wrapped around his little paw, as he is just too cute, especially if his tongue is hanging out. Wayne loves to find a good spot in the sun to recharge and relax.

We hope they get another shot at a loving family, but until then, the shelter will enjoy their antics and make sure they are healthy and happy.
